Remembering Doug McCoy

Kids' Chance Founding Board Member
Kids' Chance Founding Board Member

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our beloved friend, colleague, and Kids' Chance supporter, Mr. Doug McCoy.

If you ever had the privilege of meeting Doug, you walked away knowing three things. He loved his family, the Georgia Bulldogs, and Kids' Chance. Doug was one of the founding board members of Kids' Chance of Georgia, and he was instrumental in establishing our national organization, Kids' Chance of America. For decades, Doug shared the mission of Kids' Chance throughout his personal life and professional career in the insurance industry.

Doug commanded a room with his presence and personality. There will forever be a void in the hearts of Kids' Chance. Kids' Chance would not be the organization it is today without Doug McCoy.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Kids' Chance of America, Inc.

Annual Bird Supper Dinner Goes Virtual

For the first time in over 30 years, we have decided to transition this year’s annual Bird Supper to be a virtual campaign. It was a tough call to make, but the most important thing to us is the health and safety of all those who faithfully attend the Bird Supper every year.
Although we are not gathering in person this year, we want to continue pursuing our fundraising goals for Kids’ Chance of Georgia.  Kids’ Chance provides educational scholarships to the children of Georgia workers who have been seriously, catastrophically, or fatally injured in work-related accidents.
Over the years, the Bird Supper, with your support has raised over $1 million and supported numerous students through college.  At last year’s Bird Supper event we heard from scholarship recipient Lennis George. Lennis’s father was involved in a work-related accident in 2003 and suffered multiple injuries to his back and neck. Through the support of Kids’ Chance, Lennis obtained a sociology degree from Georgia State University in 2019 and currently works in the field of safety for Apex Companies.  Lennis continues to give back to Kids’ Chance by speaking at Kids’ Chance events and assisting in the Kids’ Chance Alumni Association.
To maximize your support, Balch & Bingham along with Hall Booth Smith, have agreed to match up to $5,000 each of all tax-deductible donations.

To donate on behalf of the Bird Supper, please include “Bird Supper” in the memo line when filling out the giving form.

New Board Member

The Atlanta Police Department and Kids' Chance of Georgia would like to congratulate Sergeant Fredrick Harper on his latest community accomplishment.

Outside of police work, Sgt. Harper looks for ways to give back to the community and help kids. Due to his relationship with the Kids’ Chance of Georgia organization, their Board of Directors recently unanimously nominated him to their Board.

In addition to his regular duties at APD, he is now the official liaison between Kids’ Chance and the City of Atlanta Police Department. He will be participating in various ways to make a difference in the lives of kids who need it most.

Kids' Chance of Georgia is honored to have Sergeant Harper as the newest member of our Board of Directors!
